Purchasing a new build home comes with a lot of benefits—everything is brand new, there is often a home warranty, and you usually have the option of choosing things like countertops, flooring, and fixtures. But when you purchase a new build home, it is important to keep some money in savings so you can pay for things that are needed after closing. Some common expenses associated with a new build home include the following.
Landscaping
When you buy a new build home, you typically just pay for the lot and the house itself. That means that you will be responsible for the costs of landscaping your front and backyard. When you buy a new build home in a community, make sure you inquire about their landscaping requirements. Many communities, especially those with homeowners associations, may have regulations regarding how long you have to get your front yard landscaped after moving in. You may also have the option of buying a landscaping package that is added on to the price you're paying for the house, but getting the package may be more expensive than hiring a landscaping company yourself.
Window Treatments
New build homes don't come with window blinds or curtains, so it is important to leave room in your budget to purchase these things. While you may not need curtains right away, you will probably want blinds on all of the windows for privacy and to control the amount of light in your home.
